A slogan to protest systemic injustice against the Black community, “Black Lives Matter” was chanted in solidarity by people of all colours across continents. The movement inspired us to imagine a world without prejudice. The global BLM movement has offered all of us an opportunity to examine how our own societies have institutionalized racism and anti-black sentiments.
‘The Black Story’ exhibition organized by Gallery Cosmos aims to engage both Bangladeshi and global audiences in artistic and intellectual interventions deconstructing the ties between Black and South Asian communities. The multidisciplinary, interactive exhibition delves into the interactions between Black and South Asian communities to examine, expose, and embrace our historical ties and illuminate the empowering potential of our shared destinies.
Born from a place of restlessness and responsibility, The Black Story was conceptualized with the goal of building a powerful, transcendental body of work that offers equality in representation and a diversity of voices through the artwork and the dialogues showcased.
We hope that this work will create a space for continued efforts to engage in meaningful dialogue around issues of race, identity and power as we explore our past, examine our present, and imagine our future.
